Goklwater's Cornwall Handicap winner Lovaals, is iioav being nominated for hurdle events. She is such a good 'winter galloper that she should take a leading place among the Auckland provincial jumping candidates. CHANGE OF STABLES The Auckland owned Penny Whistle, after a few weeks spell has been re-commissioned and will be trained by R. W. King, who in past years has led in his share of good winners. RETIRED The Wellington owned,, hut Riccarton trained, Sally Lunn, a very successful performer last season, has now been retired from the turf. A BAN ON RACING Over 1500 people packed the Adelaide Town Hall and fully another thousand failed to gain admittance to a meeting called to protest against the prohibition of racing in South Australia. During the; evening a telegram was received from the Prime Minister to the effect that he favoured, restriction in number of days, but not prohibition of racing. AN EASY WIN At the Manawatu meeting Clarice was the Avinner of the open sprint event. There were no< Kindergarten's in the field, so the Solicitor— General—General Royal Flavour filly had a comfortable victory. FPLL BROTHERS The two full brothers Aga Kay and Thara have joined R. Barlow's team at New r Plymouth. They are by Bulandshar—Left, so should be heard of in due course. UNSUCCESSFUL R. S. Bagby took Sabadar and Bright Fox down to the Manawatu meeting at Awapuni, but neither ran up to form and they finished out of. the places. NOW WITH THE ARNOTT TEAM J. Williamson who made a name for himself by riding three winners at the Wellington meeting and five at Paeroa, has; now joined up with the. D.: J. Arnott, stable at Ellerslie. He will be kept, busily employed there as this month five high grade two year olds have been added to the team. CENTREPOISE FOR HURDLING C. Shields who has recently shifted to Green Meadows, Hawke's, Bay, will put Centrepoise through his preparation. The Hunting Song representative is to be schooled over the battens as soon as the tracks become easier. NATIVE CHIEF WINS The. hurdle event at the Manawatu meeting was won by Kindergarten's elder brother Native Chief, Avho appears to have benefited by his' running at. the earlier meetings of the country circuit, POVERTY BAY HUNT CLUB A meeting of interest throughout the Auckland Province is that of the Poverty Bay Hunt Club to be held under the auspices of the Te Aroha Jockey Club at. Te Aroha on May 13. Included in the programme is a mile and three-quarters Hurdle Handicap of, £500, and also a hurdle event of £250. HIGH STAKES The stakes, £1000, allotted by the Waikato Winter meeting constitutes a record for a country club in -tibo Dominion. NAMES CLAIMED Among the names claimed last week was Heroine for the Te Awamutu owned yearling by Te Hero— Bettermint.
A SALE RING BARGAIN B The Taranaki trained Jonathan Jo, } bred by Mr Percy Miller, winner of a four races in New Zealand this season, was purchased at a Sydney sale of thoroughbreds for 120 guineas, so certainly ranks as a bargain of the sale ring. SALE OF GREAT DRAW After her victory in the second division of the Karangaliake Handicap, Mr S. J. Brundel's Great Draw was purchased ln r Messrs Crabb Bros of Matamata. A GRAND NATIONAL WINNER Foxiana, the hero of the 1 Grand Nationals last year, has been brought < in from his long holiday spell in good order and ready to undergo another preparation for the Dominion's cross-country events. OUT OF LUCK It is generally conceded that Dr. Blundcll's Neenah did not by any means have the luclc of the race in ] the Thompson Handicap, for he got into trouble in the final run, but ! was galloping fast, at the finish to ; run third to Monte Cristo and Dali jar rock.
