German Medal

Mrs R. Dent of. the Heads, Whakatane, exhibited to a Beacon representative yesterday an interesting memento of the hectic days of the great advance by the Eighth Army in Libya. This was in the shape of one of the famed German Iron Crosses which was sent back by her son Sapper J. W. Dent from the--Middle East. The medal -is one -of a box-lull discovered near Tobruk by the New'Zealariders. It is: attached? to a red, white and blaek ribbor>. and has obviously never been used,. WiJLh • the medal was also enclosed? two German shoulder tabs, passi'b-*-ly used by ' despatch riders. Tha little collection will be of interest to any person with relatives fight* ing in the Middle East.
