LOST SARCASM
"STAND BACK PLEASE, LADIES" "Stand back, please, ladies, and let tlie soldier get on.'; The .speaker was a niidd.le-'aged woman who had been in the queue waiting for a Rie-. carton (Christehureh) tram. She. and her friend, a woman of about 75, had. just been pushed aside by .a soldier who seemed, determined to i£ei aboard at a'.! costs. The sarcasm was enjoyed by the bystanders, but was quite lost on the soldier, who easily took first place and secured a seat.
