MEAT PRODUCTION
KILLINGS TO MID-FEBRUARY
The official figures of killings for the present season at the Domin-' ion's Freezing Works from Ist October to 13tli February as issued by the Ne\v Zealand Meat Producers Board, show that, lamb killings now total 5,579,932 carcases compared with 6,091,964 cracases to 14th February last season, this being a decrease of 512,032 carcases,. Wether mutton killings are 166„815 carcases:, and ewe mutton killings 598,848 carcases, compared with 318,369 and 466,818 carcases respectively last season. Details of the lamb and mutton killings in the North and South Island, with figures for the previous season in parentheses, is as follows:— North Island Lamb 3,686,706 (3,760,601) Wether mutton 163,895 ( 300,826) Ewe mutton 553,593 337,228) South Island Lamb 1,893,226 (2,331,363) Wether mutton 2,920 ( 17,543) Ewe mutton 45,255 ( 129,590) Frozen beef production has reached 107,186 quarters compared with 96,309 quarters last season. Porker killings total 23,634 carcases, a decrease, of 38„829 whilst baconers total 70i,914 carcases, a decrease of 91,125. j
