"BEWILDERED BERLIN"
When a confident Oxford or Cnmbridge eight—■ Football iifteen or cricket eleven —• Have fond hopes shattered .by an unkind fate — They naturally feel all sixes and sevens. Sometimes probable "also rans'" — Are first to pass the winning post—• Then hope. Lhat. promised notes in hands— Reluctantly gives up the Ghost. Berlin's bewildered High CommandIs in a very perturbed state ! The Soviet sponge at StalingradHas wiped divisions off the. slate. Goebbeis the little, bigger lie: getget— Admits that to tell the truth is better. Goering the medal and uniform showman— Has a sinking sensation in his vast abdomen. Hitler the Combined Judge, Counsel and JuryKeeps pounding the Bench with important fury— Demanding more fodder for Soviet gun In the orthodox way of the Nazifled Huns. Goering is bursting his buttons and buckles— To counter the R.A.F.'s -satisfied chuckles—As eight:, thousand pounders demol- \ ish the town— Berliners blame Goering for letting them dowti. Forgetting how they revelled in •destruction of life — When tliej' were top dogs in the treacherous strife— Of the thousands they're slaughtered in cruel cold blood. — And the millions deprived of shelter and food. Until their broken cross baxiner of hatred is furled— Like the wandering Jew tlicy may traverse the world— ■ Seeking satisfaction they never will find— Leaving a trail of destruction behind. Their only hope- is the genuine tender Of an unconditional surrender. H. SERGANT-
