Mr P. J. Phelan, chairman of the No. 1 Transport Licensing Authority, presided at a public sitting in Whakatane last Wednesday Avlien a short local list was dealt with. The move sponsored 'by the Chamber of Commerce, lor the running of a .passenger service within the Borough for the benefit, of shoppers was given favourable consideration after evidence had been heard by representatives of the Chamber, the Borough Council and the chairman of the Carriers Association. The culmination'was tliat M. K. Cave was granted the right to run a Borough shoppers' service at times deemed most suitable to meet local needs. A. W. Ruff transfer of goods; service license to Ruff. Bros., Waimana, Avas granted. A neAV application from S. A. Mahy, AAvakeri, Avas granted subject to review in three months time. F, Harawera's application for suspension of his license ay as granted (till further notice). The following taxi car license amendments Avere granted: G. G. Johnson, increase in fares), J. McComb and Co., Whakatane (two authorities revoked and license suspended, also increase in fares). Transfer Messrs Drake Bros. to Wm. Butler, Omaio. . J. McComb and Co. Ltd.., Whakatan,e sought licenses to operate tAvo cabs.—Granted. Passenger services transfer J. McComb to J. McComb and Co. Ltd., Whakatane.—Granted. A., A. Ivinley to R. A. Hoavcll. Matata.—Granted.
