PIONEERS' TRIALS
NO AID FOR THE SICK
CARS WITHOUT TYRES
The hardship suffered by farmers in remote districts in regard to the lack of ready access to medical aid was brought before the monthly meeting of 'the Auckland Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union at. its meeting on February 17. A remit was: received, from the Huntly branch, through the Waikato Sub. Provincial Executive, It was suggested that in eases such as those mentioned provision be made for motor tyre replacements or reconditioning on the applicant proving that disabilities; exist. Mr J. H. Furniss (Ruawaro) said that the granting of the. desired hardship, where there was no alternative service, could be proved. There were instances of tyres. being absolutely worn ou!t, thus leaving cars unuseable. He knew of one elderly man, isolated on his farm 17 miles; from the nearest, centre. Sick people simply could not. get out to obtain medical assistance in several cases. He thought that if the matter was pressed, upon the Government with sufficient force relief would be afforded. Mr Heath Mason (Te Kuiti), who seconded the remit, spoke of a disabled ex-soldier's car, with wornout tyres, being immobilised when about li> miles from the nearest town. The request was referred to the Dominion Executive.
