Boy Scout Messengers Once again the members of the local Boy Soout troops proved themselves a very real asset as messengers last Saturday. Boys, from both the Scottish and Citizens troops assisted in this respect. Girl's Lucky Escape A narrow escape from serious injury was, experienced by Ella Bryington a High School girl yesterday morning when she was thrown from her bicycle in Commerce Street as a result, of a collision with a motor cyclist. Though her machine was badly smashed Miss Bryington escaped with a few bruises. Expensive' Opotiki Trip "People who do not observe the terms of their license make it more difficult for those who do,'' stated Mr E. L. Walton, S*M,. in the Gisborne Magistrate's Court this week, when lining William George Malcolm £5 and costs 12s for using petrol for a purpose other than that stated in his license. DetectiveSergeant R. H. Waterson, stated that the defendant had a license of 20 gallons a month for the purpose of travelling from his home to his work. In one month he used the full 20 gallons, plus nine gallons he obtained from the Home Guard and! coupons.. He; worked only 22 days a month, using only 10 ; gallons for that purpose. He used part of the remainder on a trip to Opotiki. Mr A. J'. Stock, appearing for the defendant, who. pleaded guilty, said the Opotiki visit was an emergency trip, and he had not clearly - understood the objects for which the license was obtained.
