RACING NOTES

WINNING RIDERS C. B. Coulsbro is again getting into the running of riding successes as shown by his Auckland victories on Royal Master and Tellsom. On the latter he rode a very fine finish to stall off the fast finishing run of Volifox. WON AT WAIROA Mr E. N. Fitzgerald's St. Bill, by Kincardine—Our Bonnie, by The Ace, a contestant in the Railway Handicap at Matamata, won the Rouna Handicap at the Wairoa meeting in the previous week. PURCHASED FOR CANTERBURY . Marshall Hall by Hall Mark—Legality who raced, in ithe Auckland district >in the colours of the late Mr R. T. Reid has been purchased by, Mr J. Shaw, of Timaru. THE TOP PRICED YEARLING Banco, owned by Mr Mehta, of Bombay, India, who lias lately been a member of the C. C. McCarthy stable at Riccarton, is again boing trained by W. Bryce at Trentlmm, who also has the distinction of including in his team the same owners Foxbridge—Rippling Waters colt, the top priced yearling at the National Sales.

WELLINGTON AUTUMN MEETING For the Wellington Autumn meeting to be held at Trentham on March 13 the stakes have been increased bjr £1750. THOMOND LAD LAME The Avell known jumper Thomond Lad pulled up lame in the running of the hurdle race at Matamata. He will doubtless make a good recovery, but will in future be more suited to winter trades. A TWEED II REPRESENTATIVE The first of the progeny of W. H. Hosking's imported sire Tweed II has made an appearance at Ellerslie, - a itwo year old from Royal Daulton's dam. He will carry the rating colours of Mr Doug Potter. OYER THE BATTENS Messrs * Swn'ey Bros. Mai re-fix, trained at Ellerslie by N. Cunningham, will probably be schooledi over the battens in the near future. HAS MADE A START R. King, an erstwhile Canterbury trainer, who has lately been associated with R. S. Bagby's stable at Ellerslie, having been granted a itrainer's license and has made a start, with Saladam, a promising two year old. TO RACE AT TE AROHA The Two year old Mr Rosa, purchased in December last from Mrs E. M. Lennard by Mr A. E. Bowler for 1200 guineas', will make his next public appearance under colours at Te Aroha on February 27. He is still in the growing stage and his preparation is therefore not being hurried. TE RAPA AND TE AROHA The well known rider A. E. Ellis, of Canterbury, is likely to come north to ride at both the Waikato and Te Aroha meetings this month. He is not likely to complain of any lack of mounts, and the public will be fully interested in the contestants for which he is engaged. THE STEEPLECHASE SEASON In the for south steeplechases: are held much earlier in the racing season than in other parts of the Dominion. Thus Ave read that the Southland candidate Nokct won the steeplechase at Winton last week, and that he is the best southern proposition for cross-country events in the •winter. THE STOREY MEMORIAL For the Storey Memorial at the Waikato meeting, there were. 27 entries. Lou Rosa, despite his unsuccessful running' at Trentham is allotted 'the welter weight of 9.11, with Regal Fox 9.3, Beau Leon 9.2, Gay Rosette and Lord Chancellor 8.5. Lou Rosa is undoubtedly a weight carrier, and although the figures appear to be against him, he would be capable of running a solid race. But 'for his tendency to pull hard in the early , stages Regal Fox would be hard to beat. Lord Chancellor although risen 91bs on his Takapuna Cup weight is sure to run well, while Landveyor 8.2 and Indian Princess 7.11 have good credentials. The latter/ who won the Great Northern Derby with 8.5 is a good stayer and may be deemed the pick of the handicap.
