WAIMANA NARROWLY DEFEATED RESULT (OF RETURN MATCH In the return game with Waimana at Waimana the home side were defeated by 2 runs in a very exciting game. Fortunes fluctuated from time: to time and the innings were full of surprises. Whakatane won the toss and put Waimana in to bait at 10.15 a.m. Bell and Miller opened and compiled 34 when Bell fell to a beautiful ball from Spring. Miller carried on in good style before being caught at the boundary off Rivett with his score at 4.7. Menzies was hitting out in grand style and had 35 on Ithe board at the luncheon adjournment Avhen Waimana had 115 up. Howevej after lunch a rout in and the remaining 5 wiclcets fell within 20 minutes and the home side were, all out for 127. Spring and McCready opened for Whakatane but, Spring fell lbw to Menzies for 18 when the was 22. McCready and' McKenjye carried on steadily, scoring 18 and 33 respectively. However Miller came on to bowl when four were down for 70 and gained the amazing figures of 5 for 12 with Whakaltane all out for 85. Waimana's second innings was little more than a procession with Bell 15 andi Bull 12 the only players to secure double figures. McCready bowled well to; gain 6 for 14 including the "hat trick." With a score of 44 Waimana set Whakatane a score, of 86 to win with an hour and three-quarters to play. Things wenlt rather badly for the visitors and McKenzie was the only baftsman to score double figures playing through the innings for 61 runs. The feature of the game was the eight wicket stand of Radich and McKenzie taking the score, from 54 to 88. Radicli held up his; wicket whilst McKeizie scored the requisite ] runs and ithe innings closed with' Whakatane the victors by 2 runs in' a most exciting finish.
