SHOULD NOT RESIGN
GIRLS GOING TO ARMED FORCES
"Girls enlisting for -service in the Armed Forces are covered by the Occupational Re-establishment, Emergency Regulations in the. same manner as males, and they are entitled thereunder to reinstatement in their civil occupation on demobilisation," states the Director of National Service, Mr J. S. Hunter. "Apparently,"' he adds, "some girls who arc desirous of enlisting in the Armed Forces and who are employed in undertakings which have not been declared essential have resigned their position with the idea of facilitating their entry into the Armed Forces. By so doing they place j themselves outside the protection af-1 forded by the regulations."
The director stressed the advisability of a girl remaining in her present position till she 1 was actually posted for service with the forces. On receipt of a mobilisation notice she. should promptly advise her employer, but she should; not tender her resignation if she wishes to have the benefit of the Occupational Re-establishment Emergency Regulations. Her employer was debarred by t!»e National Service Emergency Regulations from dismissing her because of her entry into the forces. In addition, it was necessary for girls who had left their employment in anticipation of being accepted, for the Armed Forces to bear in mind that if they were not accepted they would be unable then to obtain employment, except in essential undertakings unless they had the prior consent of a manpower officer.
