OHINEMURI JOCKEY CLUB
The Ohinemuri Jockey Club will hold its autumn meeting at Paeroa on March 20. For seven events the stakes will total £1875. The principal events are Ithe Ohinemuri Cup £500 and St. Patrick's" Handicap £300. OUT FOR A SPELL The New Zealand Cup winner, Royal Lancer, is being allotted the run of, the paddock, and will not be raced again until Easter, when he will probably contest the Great Autumn Handicap. A STAYER'S PEDIGREE Mr A. J. Court's Lord Chancellor whose victory in the Takapuna Cup was full of merit and denoted that he is likely to. make a name for himself in the open handicap class is a three year old by Mr Standfast from Administration bj r Day Comet from Imagination, a half sister to Termination dam of the New Zealand and Wellington Cup winner, Happy Ending. WEIGHT-FOR-AGE RACES Kindergarten is, going along satisfactorily in his preparation, and is expected to line up for weightfor age events in the autumn. These include the North Island Challenge Stakes at Trentham and Taranaki Stakes at New Plymouth. AGAIN IN WORK The Night. Raid —Palestrina representative, The Cardinal, after a. spell of several months, is again in. work Te Pv.apa. It is probable that lie will be prepared for hurdling events, for he has already shown jumping capability. AN AUCKLAND OWNER The Battle Song—Helen Gold colt purchased for 550 guineas by H. Dulieu at the National Sales was secured on behalf of Mr M. J. Moodabe, a well known Auckland sportsman. A SATISFACTORY PURCHASE Recently Arctic Dawn was purchased from Mr J. H. Grigg by j Mr Cyril Tansey of Wellington, and for his new owner the horse won the Paliiatua Cup at his first start. WI,LL DO BETTER i Century, second in Ithe Putaruru Stakes, is by Mr Standfast—Hilmar, therefore a three year old half brother to that brilliant performer, King Rev. Trained by R. H. Martin, at Matamata, he may not be long before scoring a win. A CHAMPION'S BROTHER A competitor in the Tirau Hurdles Avas Na/iive Chief by Kincardine ■ —Valadore, therefore a full brother to Kindergarten. With top weight, 11.0, he ran second to the much improved Radiant Baly. Last season Native Chief won five races and although he has performed well since was at. a comparatively long price on the machine. LOCALLY TRAINED WINNERS A feature of the Matamafla meeting was the success of the locally trained candidates, the winners: being Radiant Bay, Bevace, Babrow, Great Draw and Our Joy. With the division races there were nine events so more than half were won by Matamata horses.. GAME AND SPEEDY Lady Pay, winner of the 'Matamata Cup, is both game and. speedy. She set a fast pace throughout and was galloping well at the finish to prevail from the splendidly conditioned Volifox and the improved Gay Lally.
