IMPRISONMENT FOR MAORI BICYCLE AND GQpiDS TAKEN An echo of a previous case of theft, which was heard in the Whakatane Court .recently occurred yesterday when Hone Whaka, a young man who had been employed by the Native Scheme at Matata in the building of a shed pleaded guilty to three l .charges of theft.
Sergeant Farrell said that on December 22 last, accused with another Maori broke into an empty wharc in the vicinity owned by Sam Ngaropi. Whaka had stolen a cycle valued at and also a tin of puint from the whare. He had further stolen a light generator and cycle lamp the property of George Elliott.
The bench issued a stern warning to Whalia pointing out that it was obvious that he had deliberately taken the articles. He was sentenced to a month's imprisonment on the first charge, convicted and discharged on. the second and sentenced to 14 days (concurrent) on the third.
