OTAGO PHOSPHATES

INSPECTION BY MINISTER The Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. J. G. Barclay, paid a visit of inspection recently to the phosphate deposit at Clarendon, Otago. In an interview he said the Mines Department was engaged with varying results in boring on the big hill which was the site of low-contcnt deposits. Development and boring operations, were also being carried out on the old site .which had previously been worked by the Ewing PhosXjhate Company and was now being prospected by the British Phosphate Commission. The Minister said no large development works would be started till the boring was. far enough advanced to enable the authorities to be sure of the ground.
