RESCUE RECALLED
ACTION OF THREE BOYS HUMANE SOCIETY'S INTERKST Discussing the rescue of the two little girls from the Whakatane River by three local boys, Cr S. S. Shapley at the Borough Council meeting last Monday masked if the incident Avasi being taken any further. Something should be done about it. lie said. The action of the boys should be recognised. He suggested a letter of congratulation from the Mayor. Mr Barrj r said he Avas in complete agreement and understood that the Scout Committee was taking appropriate steps to mark it, though the Scout code forbade any actual recognition by award. The foreman, Mr W. Henderson, discussing the proposal of bringing it to the noticc of the Royal Humane 1 Society,, said he Avas. not sure whether the circumstances could be applied in this case where the boys had. not actually endangered, their own liA r es. However lie Avoukl like to sec it referred to the Society and Avould like to liaAC the staif coupled with the suggestion. The council agreed to forward on details l of the incident and also to dispatch a congratulatory letter to each of the boys concerned.
