PARADE AT RUATOKI
DISTRICT HOME GUARDSMEN
NEXT SUNDAY'S EVENT Drawn from all parts of the Whakatane Home Guard Command 1 , units comprising all - Maori groups will attend a special' parade at Ruatoki on Sunday next when Major R. Vercoe of the Maori Battalion, Sir Apir-« ana Ngata, and in all probability the Hon. H. G. R. Mason will be in attendance. The para<le which will be held in connection with the establishment of a second Maori Battalion is anticipated to be. well over 500 strong and should provide a line spectacle. It Avill be assisted by the Whakatane Pipe Band Avhich will provide the music for the marching. The ceremonies, will commence at 11 a.m. and extend till approximately 3 p.m. Later the assembled Maoris will be addressed by the visiting speakers who will emphasise the importance of establishing a second unit, to the overseas battalion which has already won for itself so many honours and such high distinction for the race.
