£749 STILL REQUIRED WHAKATANE'S POSITION In iai statement setting out the 'financial position of the Whakatane and Borough Interzone Patriotic subscription account for the last year, the honorary secretary, Mr C. G. Lucas, shows that there is sttill £749 to be found for this diistrict to meet its quota. A promised sum of £288 from Ruatoki would however reduce this further to £481. The following districts, have completed collections for the 1942 Ap'peal:— Matata ' £419 Manawahe 262 (overpaid 18/-) Thornton 471 (overpaid 1/2) Otakiri 524 (overpaid 1/9) Te Teko 629 (overpaid 1/0/9) Edgecumbe 1205 • Opouriao and Taneatua 1100 (overpaid 5/-) Wainui 209 (overpaid 4/8) VBoro' & Ohope 2306 (overpaid 10/-) Waimana 628* In those districts where the quotas are not yet complete, the following is the position:— Quota Still to be subscribed

.Mr Tui Tawera on behalf of Ruatoki has; had forwarded a schedule •of orders signed by the Ruatoki farmers on their cream cheques. Such •orders total £288 Is Id. When the. Native Department forwards, the cheque for this amount 'the Ruatoki quota still to be subscribed avKI be reduced from £491 0 s 8d as above shown to £2012 19s 7d. Mr Rangi of the Ngatiawa Maori Committee, also -advises that he has sufficient funds in hand to roduee his committee's -outstanding collections to under £100.

In circular of the 4th December committees were requested to advise at their convenience when they anticipated finalising collections for the 1942 Appeal. The Ruatalmna •Committee has reported that, it will fail to subscribe it quota, and. it "would be appreciated if other districts, when they have completed their collections, wou\d advise, so that a meeting may be called to discuss the matter, if the final fig-ures-disclose a deficit. The Opotiki Tntcrzonc has. paid in £6086 5s 5d which represents an overscription of £317 f>s sd. The Wliakatane Interzone will, when | ic JRuatoki dairy order cheque of £288 Is Id is received from the Native be undcrsubscribed on quotas £749 Is 7d. An amount of £268 0s ud is held, which has been received from the Provincial Council on account of Dominion-wide Appeals and, this amount should be credited pro rata to all patriotic committees- Taking this into account and assuming the Ruatoki cheque £288 Is Id as paid, this In'terzone is £481 Is 2d short of its allocation.
