Local bodies throughout Now Zealand are being asked to set up committees to compile programmes of work in their respective, districts, in order that a national scheme of works can be drawn up as part of the rehabilitation plan which is being worked out by the Rehabilitation Board. A circular letter has been sent out by the board,, which seeks information on construction "work on the, execution of which returned servicemen, both skilled and unskilled, can directly be employed. Su/jh. work would include road and street improvements and extensions, waterworks and drainage extensions and developments, slum, clearance river and llood protection, harbour improvements, reclamations. land drainage, afforestation on local authority areas, tramway extensions, and provision of essential civil amenities. Particular regard, the board suggests, should be paid to works such as reclamations or slum clearance, which on completion will provide facilities for industrial expansion which can be utilised to absorb returned servicemen of another class.
