THE SERGEANT
A very busy sergeant of the N.Z.R.A.F. keeps the following hanging in his office. At times when things become a little hectic lie is inclined to testify to the truth of it. If the Sergeant writes a letter it's long. if he sends a postcard it's too short. If he issues a bulletin he's a spendthrift. If he attends a meeting he's butting in. If he stays away he's a shirker. If lie offers a suggestion he's o 'know-all. If he says nothing he's useless. If the attendance at a meeting slack he should have called the officers up. If he calls t.hem up he's a pest. If he asks the officers to do anything he's insulting. If he doesn't he's lazy. If a parade is a success the officers get the praise. If it's a failure, the Sergeant gets the blame. If. he asks l'or advice he's incompetent. If he docs not he's swell-headed. "Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust." If the others won't do it the Sergeant must.
