QUESTION OF SITE ALTERNATIVE POSITION SUGGESTED The Medical Officer of Health, Gisborne, writing the County Council with reference to the proposed cemetery site, advised that representations for a new site had • been made to the Lands and Survey De-t partment, which department advised' that the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Auckland, considered that no more suitable site than the present one was available. The Commissioner had stated that the roading to the cemetery was only approximately 20 chains and not (50 chains as mentioned by the County Clerk. Whakatane, and that with the little, traffic this road would have, the cost of formation and upkeep, would be comparatively small and would be well warranted in that it would, serve satisfactorily the requirements of this sparsely settled locality. In 1937 the question of setting aside the area under review was referred to the Department and subsequently the Medical Officer of Health at Gisborne, and the local residents considered the site to be suitable. In view of the difficulty of finding a better site it was suggested by the Lands and Survey Department that further consideration be given to utilising the present reserve. The County Clerk reported that ft copy of the Mcdieal Officer of Health's letter was on the 12th October forwarded to Cr Caw to and the Council resolved that the Department be advised the Council was not prepared to proceed with the present site but that altcrna-v live site was acceptable.
