PATRIOTIC DANCE Another popular dm">ec was held in the Awakeri Hall recently, there being a good attendance. Ajs a result of the function a substantial sum was raised, for the Patriotic funds of the district. A very popular Monte Carlo was won by Mr E. D. Bloxham and partner, Miss Janet Terry. During tlic evening items were rendered by Private J. Quintall and Mr Jack Ilus|t. It was with regret that Mr C. Mac Donald announced the pending disbandonment of the Rhythm Aces Band which played at Awakeri for the last time, at least for the present. Patriotic Meeting A meeting of the Awakeri Patriotic Committee was held in the local hall on October 22. Mr L. Lu.vton presided, over a fair attendance. The secretary -gave an account of the financial position at the moment. The sum of £521 had been paid into the centre while cash it; hand, cash promised and parcels credit due would, bring this up to approximately ,£(>3B. As the allocation for the district is £S3S about £200 is outstanding. It was resolved to hold two further dances and (inalise the Stephenson raffle as soon .'is possible. After some discussion a motion that the Paper Mills area be transferred to Whakatanc was passed on the motion of Messrs Rydc and Barr. A request to this elYcct will be forwarded to the centre. The basis for this request is that the majority of the mill workers live in the town.
