WEEK-END WEATHER
BROKEN AND UNSETTLED FLOODING ON PLAINS Typical Labour Day week-end weather, was the general comment regarding the wind and rain storms that swept this district from Friday last.- The only bright and settled period occurred on Sunday when a welcome break of sunshine followed Saturday's storm. This however was followed up by yesterday's thunder showers with which those who attended the showgrounds are now so fully familiar. The heavy falls registered on Friday were responsible for considerable Hooding in the back ajreasj of the Plains where the rain was considerably heavier than in Wha'katane. At Waimana for instance a regular cloudburst flooded the river on Friday and banked, the Whakatane high. Flooding occurred at Awakeri and Whakatane West. In the White Pine Bush, area heavy falls were also experienced and large washouts occurred. The Taneatua road was once again covered but was not impassable at. any time. I(n all the fall in Whakatane measured 2.35 inches for the week-end, and though the river was bank high throughout Saturday it was largely due to the rain inland.
