WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

GATHERING AT EDGECUMBE

The monthly meeting of' the' 1 Edge 4 cumbc Women's Institute was held on Tuesday, and the occasion being members' day, the chair was taken by Mrs J. Le Lievre, Mrs Flavel acted as secretary and Mrs List as treasurer. After the singing of the Ode to Friendship, the Aspirations were read. Routine business was dealt with and Mrs Burgess gave an interesting and comprehensive report. of the Council meeting at Wai-* mana to which she w r as a delegate. The roll call was answered by all present, it being "What Calling I Would Follow if I Could" and proved nursing to be the most popular. • Mrs Jespersen sang "Its a Lovely" Day .To-morrow" and was heartily applauded. A competition was won by Mrs Burgess and a mystery parcel was won by Dale Iriving. Mrs Le Lievre gave a most useful demonstration of the making of padded wool quilts. Mrs Hodson was presented with a bouquet' and accorded musical honours on the occasion of her birthday. The competitions were as follows: Collection biscuits, Mrs List 1; Mrs Burgess 2. Bouquet, Mrs Malpas 1; Mrs Burgess 2. Best flower, Mrs Cole 1; Mrs Rowntree 2. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses Mrs Goldsmith, Mrs G. Irving and Mrs L. Wilson. The meeting concluded w T ith the singing of the National Anthem.
