APPEAL CLOSES

THE objective of £100, set by the Whakatane Town and District Soldiers' Farewell Appeal, has been exceeded by £31. The result is particularly pleasing in view of the fact that the donations were made without solicitation or canvass, but were spontaneous gestures made as a result of the appeal through the columns of this paper. It may also be taken as a warm public endorsement of appreciation of the work which has been carried out by the committee for the past two and a half years in farewelling the boys of the fighting services before they leave-for overseas.
