Straight Bat made her return to racing at Ashburton. After doing an attractive preliminary she was well supported. She was in a lather at the post, and no do-übt. this took a lot out of her. Nevertheless she was in a commanding jjosition right into the straight before compounding. WILL HAVE TO IMPROVE Sitara, the two year old daughter of Bulandshar and Stretto, is being kept going in view of pending engagements, The filly has any amount of speed over a few furlongs, but will need, to improve in stamina in order to win races. TRAINED AT TE RAPA Powvs, who ran third in the Trial Stakes at. the Avondale meeting to Charivari and Hunting King, is now a member of J\. L. Muir's team at Te Rap a. BEAU LEON IMPROVING Beau Leon has been executing very satisfactory work at Te Awamutu, and it is confidently expected that he will be running prominently in the big handicaps this season. His second in the last Auckland Cup was a good, performance 1 , and he is now at the age when he should stay out solid contests. TOTALISATOR INCREASE The totaiisator turnover at the Ohinemuri meeting showed an increase of £7809 10s.
