INSTITUTE ACTIVITIES
The. October meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuliou Women's Institute was held on Wednesday last in the Waimana Hall, Mrs Hewitt presiding over a good attendance. The singing of the Institute song opened the meeting. Mrs Wvlde then read the minutes and routine business was dealt with. Arrangements were made for the Bi-annual Meeting to be held at Waimana on October IG. Members subscribed to the Leper fund. £1 10s (id being collected. A letter was read from Norman Craig, who is overseas, stating how parcels received trom Y\ •1 • members. are greatly appreciated. Mrs. F. Savage read the Golden Thread, the subject being a Tourist's Trip Through the South and North Islands o! New Zealand, and Mrs John Addison gave a mostl interesting reading on Fijii. The roll call Avas well responded to. it being "Irish Jokes. The day's competitions were: — Best Single Flower: Mrs W. Stevenson 1: Miss Wooliield 2; Mrs Wyide :i. Best double flower: Mrs T. Wardlaw' 1; Mrs Wooliield 2; Mrs F. Bell IS. Best vegetable: Mrs b. Bell 1; Mrs Wool field 2: Miss Wooliield o. Bran mulVins; Mrs .AN arc!law 1: Mrs F. Bell 2. Plum and raspberry jam: Mrs f. Savage 1; Mrs I-. Bob 2; Mrs T. Wardlaw 3. An amusing competition ai iauge-.l by Mrs Wylde was u'on by Miss! M. Hughes. Mrs Kneebone and Mrs K. Hell kindly acted as judges- for the day. Mrs Hewitt thanked the hostesses and judges and the singing oi the National Anthem closed the meeting.
