V.C. HONOURED
IN GERMAN PRISON CAMP
ATTITUDE OF COMMANDANT
Lieut-Commander A. H. Beattic, V.C., hero of the recent St. Nazairc raid, was saluted by the German commandant of a German prison camp at a special parade, at which the full citation of bis award was read out to the British prisoners. Beattic was in command of H.M.S. Campbelltown, the -destroyer which rammed the dock gates and was blown up to destroy them. The commandant joined in the cheers of Beattic's fellow-prisoners. A prisoner of war, in a letter home,, says: "Wc had a very exciting ceremony. A special camp parade was ordered, and the little commandant, in 1 full regalia, called Beattic out and, read the official news of the award of the Victoria Cross. He saluted him, which was gentlemanly. "Naturally there was wild applause. We all feel the raid must have been thought Avortlnvhile at home."
