EDGECUMBE DOMAIN

AREA OF ELEVEN ACRES

NO INTENTION OF EXCILANCE

Following the publicity afforded the recent discussion of an exchange of site for the Edgecumbe Domain, at the last County Council meeting we have been interviewed by the chairman of the Domain Board, Mr F. W. Snelling, who states that the board' Iliad not the slightest intention of making such a move nor had it been approach-

Ed in any way

In a statement. Mr Snelling added that the Board which had been

in existence for twenty-two' years, had. control of an area of 11 acres, about a mile and a half from the township. The whole area had been cleared, planted and fenced and was now in first class order. Conveniences and, dressing sheds had been crec-ted and a considerable sum spent on improvements. The domain was utilised by the public for recreational games of all kinds and was to his mind within a reasonable distance from the settlement.

He considered that the Board, which had played such a prominent part in the development of the domain should at least have been consulted when such a thing as a projected exchange of land was first mentioned. In the meantime the whole proposal is quite unofficial and as far as the Board is concerned, Avithout foundation. (The report printed in the Beacon and the subsequent comments in our leader column, made no attempt to throw the suggestion into an official light. The Avliole subject Avas merely the outcome of a casual suggestion of a councillor, Avhieh the paper, regarded as a constructive one and therefor proceeded to encourage. The subject, is however, admittedly a different proposition from Avhat was first supposed, and we thank Mr Snelling for his information regarding the domain and the attitude of the Board- Ed.)
