.ACTIVE SERVICE MAN'S OPINION
LOCAL BOY WRITES HOME
"Writes a local boy now on ser~vice in the Midd'le East: A number of the articles in a certain paper re C.O.'s have made 1 quite a hit over here. Allso the - grumblesi of our friends who stayed 1 at home and are putting up with the hardships of Papakura and Trentham are great subjects for discussion. In, one of them I read where some poor "unfortunate Soldier had only been able to get home for 12 hours leave during the first two months he was in camp l and 1 had to wait three months before he had a week's leave. Too bad 1 , really because over here we get every night off to go to the pictures and every week-end we
spend with our friends in town, like h —l). It is really marvellous what people growl about ! When I think about the things I used 1 to grumble and growl at I feel ashamed and swear that once I get home I will never growl' agiain. I think I have grown out of the grumbling stage by now because although we do not have everything our own way and things are not always! too good, there is very little real grumbling from, anybody and we are usually satisfied 1 with life in general.'"
