BUILT ON ROADWAY

RANGITAHI SCHOOL PROBLEM

V FORGOTTEN DEDICATION

The fact that the Rangitahi Native School on the Galatea Road has been built, across a dedicated roadway caused a few raised brows at the Whakatane County Council meet ing last Tuesday. This fact was made known when i\lr K. B. MicClellan the head teacher, Avrote in stating that lie had now seen the sketch of the Access Road to the school and finds that such is a dedicated road and not a private school road as was previously understood. Acting on the assumption that the school access road was a private road, he had had the Education Department construct a cattle stop on such road and authority for the construction of such cattle stop on the road was now sought. The County Clerk reported that, a sketch plan had. also been supplied by the District Engineer under cover of a letter dated 2nd September and that such plan showed the access road to the Rangitahi School to go no further than the school section. Cr Cawte also pointed out that no one could, be penalised if the road was. closed and it was therefore decided to close it and to include in the school site.
