ELECTRIC POWER PRODUCED
NlvW PLANT IN AMERIJCA
The ley winds of winter howling over mountain tops in New England, north-eastern ■corner of the United Slates, have been harnessed to produce electric power for the humming factories of American Avar industry. A gigantic -windmill of special design, 1..10 metres high, lias been undergoing tests for months in the (Ireen Mountains of Vermont. Winds as high as 18.1 kilometres per hour have been recorded in this region. The electric current produced during the test has been fed into nearby power lines to supplement the regular service to mills and .factories. Professor John IJ. Wilbur, of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, chief engineer of the windmill project, said it had withstood all mechanical, structural and electrical tests and offered definite indications that mountain winds will become an important source of electric power in America.
