Kecently the steel mills of the United States, operating close to 100 per cent of capacity, established a new high record for weekly production. During the peak week, 100,000 more tons o! steel were turned out than during the .same week of last year. r lhe American Iron and Steel Institute. authoritative trade association. attributed the record-brea'king rate to the pooling of methods and skills by steel mill workers eager to surpass all previous efforts in turning out this key metal in the armament programme. Executives of the giant mills recently asked all superintendents to pool their experience and ingenuity to get maximum output.- The men were told to forget production costs and to make fell use of any expedient that would achieve an increase of even -t few tons of pig iron each day. The superintendents have therefore been exchanging private and formerly held operating sec rets, giving rival concerns every trick of the trade that would help in reaching the common goal of victory.,
