RACING NOTES

GOOD CLASS MARE Fj D. .Tones has Scottish Dale coming on stcadilj* in licr preparation, and she will be one of the best Rk> carton prospects for sprints at the summer meetings. Scottish Dale fought on in fine style to beat The Champ by a nectfc in the last Great Easter Handicap at Riccarton, while in her final start for the season it took Lord Nuffield, then the outstanding sprinter in the South Island, to beat her in the Oamaru Grange Handicap. Scottish Dale > won £1077 last season, and the Foxbridge—Drama marc looks certain to win good races, for Mr J. 11. McKenzic this season. THE BOLOYNA STABLE Court Dress has been sold by the Clifford Estate Trustees to Mr A. Didham, and. the Nightmarch gelding will be trained at Wingatui. As a galloping companion lie will have Boloyna, so Avi.ll need to gallop in keeping with his breeding lines. RACING RESTRICTIONS Racing clubs in Sydney are at present .more than slightly worried through the Commomvealth Government deciding that racing cannot be entertained at Sydney and Melbourne each Saturday. There is a proposal that for the two capitals racing could be held each alternate Saturday. It is understood that an application Avill be made for a leading barrister to address the House of Representatives on the subject. In the meantime the big clubs are in a quandary as to the listing of racing dates for the season.

BROTHER TO ANITA FOE The Defoe—Polyanna gelding, Fight On, who has an Ellerslie deadheat for first to his credit, is now again galloping freely on the Ellerslie tracks. This brother to the well performed Anita Foe is owned by Mr Ji H. Edmunds, of Newmarket. TE RONGA IMPROVING One of the improving cross country candidates that, has perceptibly improved is To Ronga, since competing at the Pakuranga meeting, where he led his field for the greater part of the distance, he has been credited with good track efforts. He should be. at the top of his form by Labour Day and fQr the Waikato Hunt, fixture at Cambridge. PROGRESSIVENESS For its two-days spring meeting at Trentham the Wellington Racing Club has increased the stakes by £1050. The prize money for the Har-

court Stakes, eleven furlongs, will be £750. SURVOY RETURNS The Surveyor gelding, Survoy, winner of the Great Northern in 1939, is again among the trac*k workers at Ellerslie: He has been off the scene many moons, but is expected to survive a strong preparation. BEAU VITE PLACED The Wellington owned Beau Vite has been secured by Mr W. J. Smith of St. Aubins Stud, New South Wales. He is expected to return to New Zealand at the end of December, but it is quite on the cards that in the mean time his owner 11103* receive tempting offers for the straight out purchase of the Beau Pere representative. Time will tell. PEKOE RETIRED • The Wanganui owned Pekoe, by Kiosk, has bade farewell to the turf. In his I-lawera engagement he suffered an attack of bleeding, and was given away to a personal friend of the owner.
