OBITUARY
MR ANDREW McLEAN
In the death of Mr Andrew (Mac) McLean of the well known local business establishment of McLean Motors, Wha'katane, has lost a keen progressive businessman. Born in Inverness, Scotland, fortythree years ago the late Mir McLean entered the Imperial Army at the age. of sixteen years during the last war.. Upon demobilisation he completed his engineering course and as a young man joined- the staff of the Anglo-Persian Oil Company and departed for the East. For eighteen months he worked in that country and formed an interesting collection of photographs which clearly showed the immensity of the great Brit-
ish venture
Some twenty years ago he came to New Zealand and joined the mechanical staff of the N.Z. State Forestry department. He was stationed first, at Hanmer and some years later iat Rotorua. Ten years ago he started up in business on his own. account at .Rotorua and estab* lished a thriving garage and service station.. Investi'gating prospects in the Bay of Plenty lie decided 4% years ago to come to Whakatane. Purchasing a corner black in Clifton Road lie erected the large premises known as McLean Motors. The business was quickly established and carried a wide reputation for its enterprise and efficiency.
Some 18 months ago Mr McLean began to suffer from ill-health and as a result he made periodic visits: to hospital both here and in Auckland. His death occurred on August 30th after a period of complete incapacitation. The deepest sympathy will be felt for his! wife and only child.
