RACING NOTES

EXIT GASCONY The Hawke's Bay sire, Gascony, by King John—First Blow, died last week at the West Derby Stud, Ohau near Wellington. He has been represented on the turf by several smart performers, especially sprinters. A DEFINITE DECISION Mr E. N. Fitzgerald, of Gisborne, has withdrawn Kindergarten from the Melbourne Cup, and tin's fact removes itlie doubt as to' whether an Australian trip is likely. The champion is executing light work on the Gisborne tracks. OUT FOR A SPELL Selwyn is to be turned out until next autumn as the result of going amiss in the Pakuranga Hunt Cup. It is not. the first time that this jumper has gone lame, and he may prove difficult to train in the future.' TO BE SCHOOLED St. Cloud has not faced up to expectations for some time and is to be tried out as a hurdler. She won three races last, season and had six minor placings in 21 other starts, while this season she failed in two races at Riccarton after running third in the Brabazon Handicap at the Ghristclmrch Hunt meeting. JUSTINA RECOMMISSIONED That, capable galloper Justina lias been taken up again after a spell of several months. This marc put up several sound performances over middle distances last season, andAvas decidedly unlucky in some of her races. J. J. Goodwin should have little difficulty in winning further successes with Justina during the present term. NOW AT TRENTHAM The Foxbridge—Night Myth - filly Transcend, for some time in active commission at Ellerslie, is now a member of P. Burgess' 'team at Trentham. THE WANGANUI GUINEAS The northern three year olds engaged in tlie Wanganui Guineas are Representative, and Beau Vaals. Both are- trained by Fred Smith, at Takanini.

FOR AVONDALE The Hunting Song—Monette representative Ccntrepoise, is nominated at both Wanganui and Avonadc. At Hastings he is being worked right handed, and that is taken to mean that Avondale will be the choice ol the stable. As he won the Par-i liamentary Handicap at Trent ham in July, his racing condition should be solid, and he will probably be backed accordingly. JUST A MISTAKE A Wanganui juvenile that is expected to make a name for himself on the turf is Keite-he which is the Maori word for mistake. It. appears that the colt was knocked down to his present owner, Mr Frank Bristol, at the National Sales by mistake, hence the appelation bestowed upon him. He is galloping so well on the training tracks that the mistake may yet prove to be quite a lucky one for the owner. Avho in his time has had numerous Avinners. ANOTHER JUMPER The Matamata trainer. 11. 11. Martin, lias been so successful with the jumpers Mendelssohn, and Urekjaw, that lie is now putting Prince Pilot.
