NEARING NORMAL

FLOOD WATERS RECEDE ALL ROADS PASSABLE; Reports from the Plains and Galatea this morning indicate that the fine week-end was responsible for the flood waters in, practically all instances going down, and in many cases the river flow is restored to normal. All roads are now passable,though one or two washouts make travelling in one or two instances difficult. In the opinion of competent observers the Rangitaiki and 1 Whakatane rivers should be normal within a day or two, providing rain continues to hold off.
