NEWCOMER AT ELLERSLIE A rcccnt arrival at Kllerslie is Charivari, the four j-ear old daughter of Bulandshar and Charlady. This fills? is a half sister to Charade, winner of the Great Northern Hurdles in I!W9. Charivari has joined R. S. Bagby's team and wiH contest minor hack events at the spring meetings.
TWO RECENT ARRIVALS
The Te Awamutu trainer W. Woods arrived at Ellerslie a lew days ago with his two 'gallopers, Statue and Dinkette. Statue is endowed with plenty of speed and is a likely prospect for a maiden event later on. Dinkette is a two year okl black li'lly by Dink from Cape Marita. HAPPY ENDING LAME Working at Riecarion since the Grand, National meeting Happy Ending showed definite signs of lameness in the rear hind leg. Unless he 'shows improvement in the near future his projected trip to Australia will have to be declared oil'.
RE-COMMISSIONED The North Island-owned horse Ever England, which has been hacked about at Mr K. Austin's stud farm for so,me weeks, is due to reenter C. stable shortly. McCarthy is also to have the Paper Money gelding, Monetary, in his team in future. TROTTING RACING According to the statistics published in the New Zealand Trotting Register the fastest mile ever recorded in the Dominion was the lmin 51) 2-5 scs of Lawn Derby in 1939. The only other liorse to have broken the two minutes is Gold Peak who went 1.59 3-5.
A BRILLIANT SPRINTER It is now considered by many Canterbury sportsmen that Bashful Lady, winner of the Winter Cup, is a very likely prospect for the Canterbury Stewards' Handicap to be run in November next. She gathers up speed very quickly enabling her to secure a g'ood position, and maintains her galloping ability consistently furlong by furlong.
THE TREASURY BENEFITS The Government taxation in connection with the Grand National meeting" of lavo days Avas £15,988 9s 7d, another Avindfall for the Treasury.
BEAU VITE TO RETURN Mrs R. Stewart, of Wellington, has now decided that Beau Vite Avill not be sold. He will be brought back from Australia about December next. This will be good news to many leading horse owners, as it is widely acknowledged that the Beau Pere horse will be a real acquisition in respect to blood stock to New Zealand.
TO BE RETIRED The five year old Support, by Bulandshar from the Gainscourt mare Alimony, is to be retired to the paddock. FOR CLASSIC EVENTS Mr T. 11. Lowiw's Boulder Dam who was taken to the Wellington meeting, but not started on account ol' the abnormally sticky track is now being speeded up at Hastings in view of the Wanganui Guineas and other spring classics.
