YOUNG FARMERS' CLUB

WAIMANA FIELD 1 DAY A field clay on behalf of the Young Farmers' Club of the Eastern and Western Bay of Plenty was held recently on the property qf Mr T. W. Ward-law, Wflimana. The ?ompeti-. tion was for the Wright, Stephenson Cup, which is competed for at a stock judging competition of a dairy cow held annually. The Western Bay w T as represented by Te Puke while Waimana represented the Eastern Bay, who were 'the challengers. Mr H. C. White, chairman of the Eastern Bay c.f Plenty District Council, in an address welcomed clubs from different parts of the Bay. Also in attendance was Mr D. S. Ross, Dominion president. After the Eastern Bay of Plenty liad ijeen declared the winners of the cup for the 1942-43 season, a competition for the members of the Eastern Bay was held. This competition, for the best judge of a dairy cow, was run in a senioir and iunior class. The Senior Medal was won t>y Mr H. G. White, of Waimana, and the Junior Medal by Mr J. Hughes. During the evening the final debate as held between Te Puke and Waimana Clubs for the District Shield.i The Waimana team was represented by-Mr H. White (leader), Mr R. White and Mr R. Macdonald.

Te Puke won after a close and interesting debate. The subject was "Should the Marketing of Primary Products be Producer Controlled." trolled."' Mr Hubbard, of the Whakatane High School, was the adjudicator. At the conclusion of the debate the Wairaana Club entertained a large and happy gathering by celebrating its sixth birthday. The cake which was made and donated by Miss Olive Cain received praise from all present. Miss Cain also had the' honour of cutting Hie cake. Mr Ross, Dominion president, presented the trophies to the respective winners.
