PUBLIC WARNED

"STAY WHERE YOU ARE" 1 ROADS MUST BE KEPT FREE "You have a great duty—the duty of keeping the roads free Cor our troops, rio master what happens," states a notice circulated among the people l of Britain, a copy of which has been sent to all E.P.S. organisations in the Thames Valley by Mr A. L. Burk, District Controller. Hauraki (No. 3) E.P.S. District for circulation among wardens ami members of the Law and Order Unit. Mi* Burk received the notice from the Area Commander, No. 2 Army area. It continues as under-:— "Should, parachutists land. or should enemy forces push inland from our coasts, some less-brave people may be tempted to flee from threatened villages and towns. "Don't do it. Stay where you are. This is not just advice—it is an order from the Government. The greatest harm any man or woman could do' Britain at such a time would be to clutter up the roads and so hinder our own troops advancing to drive the enemy out. "Tin France, refugees crowding the roads made it impossible for the army to bring up reinforcements. So France lost. "This must not happen here. Re 1 - member, you will be far safer from bombing and machine gunning down stairs in your own home than you \ould' be oil the open road. Remember, too, the Home Guard will be defending your village, and the Army wilil be defending your country. They need the roads—that's why you must stay put."
