ENJOYABLE EDGECUMBE
MEETING
Members met on the morning of. Tuesday last and made felt bags under the able direction of Mrs Speirs. The afternoon meeting opened with the Ode to Friendship and the reading of the Aspirations after which members stood in silence for a minute in token of sympathy with a member who has suffered a sad bereavement. j It was decided to hold a special bring and buy stall for the Leper Fund. During the afternoon the young pupils of Mrs Patience entertained with Scottish dancing. A Highland Fling by Barbara Cole anu Heather Bcll was heartily applauded, as was a.Sjvord Dance by Lesley Bell, Bernice Starnes and Barbara List. Mrs Jespersen sang "The Auld Hoose" in her pleasing manner and w r as warmly applauded. A card competition was won by Mrs Russell and a musical parcel was won by Mrs Williams, a visitor from Opotiki.
Mrs Withy, of Matata W. 1., gave a most instructive demonstration of wool spinning and Mrs Le Lievre demonstrated knitting from the fleece. Mrs Hodson, President, on behalf of members then made a presentation of a mirror to Miss Joy Pepperell with good wishes for licr future. Miss Pepperell lias been an energetic member of the W.I. committee and Aviil be much missed when she leaves the district after her marriage next month. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs Learning, Mrs Robb, Mrs Goodwin and Mrs Thomson. Tiie competition winners were: Hot water bag cover: Mrs Burgess 1, Mrs Mai pas 2.. Novelty scones: Mrs Burgess 1, Mrs Thomson 2. Best flower-: Airs Wilson 1, Airs L.ist
