BREEDING OF VALENS The Hunt Cup winner Valcns is the last of the progeny of his dam, Glamis, an English mare by Forfarshire from Glaire de Beaupre, by St. , Serf—Madge Robertson, by Kendal. Her stock have not made history, but her fillies may carry on at the Stud. TWO FAILURES Gheddington and Arabian Night, two of the best, supported liorscs in the Sumner Hack Handicap at Ric;- 1 carton, both ran disappointing races. The former got away well but was Boon one of the rear division, while Arabian Niiglit lost ' ground early and was never in a likely position. * THIRD WIN ONLY Willow Wood, who paid a sensational dividend at Ricearton, promised well asi a two year old, but lip was eventually sold out of the : Chokebore stable, and lie Avon only one race last season in 18 starts though he had other placings. As his only previous success was at two years, he did not win out of his turn. Willow Wood is by Cricket Bat from Winsome Hind. a half-sis-ter to Wild Chase. JOCKEY MISSING Among those recently reported missing in Libj r a was G. R. Tattersall, well known jockey, who won the Wellington Centennial Cup on Old Bill. A BAD INVESTMENT Night Hawk has been an expensive proposition since he was put to steeplecliasing in the Auckland district. Sent south by his owner some weeks ago, he has earned only one small third stake, and in his three races at Riecarton lie had one fall and ran off twice. IRATE FOR TE RAPA The Canterbury sportsman Mr G. Murray-Ainsley last, week sold his four year old fixly Irate, by Myositis from Berate, by Silverado from Reproachful, dam of Chide. Grafas' Foxbridg'e representative, Esquire, resumed racing at Paeroa. So far he has not shown anj r signs of the erratic behaviour that some months ago earned for him a holiday from racing contests, CHANGE OF STABLES Apprentice jockey H. l y j Stewart, who was very successful last season, when apprenticed to G. YV. New, of Palmcrston North, is nowattached to C. V. MacManemin's stable at Eilerslie. ANOTHER FOXBRIDGE Foxhaven, a- recent winner in Canterbury, is by Foxbridge from the Chief Ruler mare Pelagio. He was purchased at the 1941 National Sales by Mr H. N. Barton for SUO guineas, and it is now considered that he is likely to develop into a class ic eandidate. HAD EVERY CHANCE Pekoe ran well for a long way in the Grand National Hurdles, hut he failed to sve out -he long journey. A FORTNIGHT TOO SOON Enulale reached the peak of his form a fortnight too soon for the Grand National. The way he Avon at the Hunt meeting left the impression that nothing would have been bevond him. that day.
