BARBED WIRE
ARMY REQUIREMENTS MET
PAYMENTS TO FARMERS
At last Executive meeting of the Auckland Farm its' Union a discussion took pkv?e in regard to the requisition which had been made upon farmers for barbed wire for the use of the Armed Forces. It was reported thai substantial shipments had arrived in the country and army requirements had been fully met. In the circumstances it was unnecessary for the Army lo collect any more wire from-farm-ers. An Army order received by the Union read as follows: — Under instructions from Army Headquarters the collection of wire from fences is lo be suspended immediately. .Arrangements for payment for wire already collected will be made through the Public Works Department and Provincial headquarters of Farmers' Union will be notified later. Please forward to this Headquarters any returns of collections now required to complete area figures for payments. Several members stated that in many cases no proper record had been kept and no receipt obtained by farmers for the wire they had parted with. In such cases it would ise difficult, if not impossible, to arrange for payment.
