POULTRY CULTURE
GOVERNMENT EXPERT'S VISIT
AN INTERESTING ADDRESS
Mr J. C. Bobby, Chief Government Poultry Expert, accompanied by Mr E. C. J arret t, the Government expert for the Auckland Province, visited Whakatane on Tuesday last. Mr Bobby delivered an address on poultry topics to a somewhat limited audience in the Borough Council Chambers in the evening. The speaker made some interesting observations on the differences between poultry keeping in the Home Country and in the Dominion based largely upon climatic conditions. Pie also spoke of feeding and management of fowls and was listened to Avith marked attention.
At the conclusion of his address Mr Bobby answered a number of questions addressed to him. Advantage was taiken of the' opportunity to impress upon him the scarcity of poultry foodstuffs' in this district. Mr Bobby duly noted the representations made to him. He expressed appreciation of the good work done by the New Zealand Poultry Board. The position as to supply of pollard, bran and wheat for poultry had markedly improved during the past six weeks. Any scarcity in this dis-
trict was due wholly to the system of distribution. Produce merchants had given attention to the requirements of poultry farmers having flocks of 500 birds or more. The actual position was that all terecl poultry keepers were entitled to priority in supplies irrespective of the number of birds maintained.
At the conclusion of his address a hearty vote of thanks to the speaker was carried by acclamation.
