WASTE PARER

ASSISTING PATRIOTIC FUND LETTER TO COMMITTEE In a letter to the secretary of Zone 'K' Patriotic Committee Mr E. P. Neale-, Provincial Sll p^rvisor for the Reclamation of Waste Material states as under:— Some of the towns Avithin your Zone (Whakatane and Opotiki) may haA r e agreed to co-operate in tho matter of paper conservation and despatch thereof to Whakatane, and in this connection I am setting forth ; a procedure Avhich is suggested by the National Council for the Reclamation of AVaste Material in connection Avith the handling of. the accounts im-olved. Variations from 1 this procedure Avill be permitted by . arrangement Avhere circumstances justify the same, but the procedure j laid doAvn has the advantage, that \ those Boroughs undertaking paper conservation automatically re- < imbursed to them their outgoing ex- j penses. The procedure suggested is that each Local Committee handling pap- i er ask the Whalkatane Mills following each despatch to pay that com- , inittee the amount due to it based , on fthe tonnage consigned less tare of sacks. The sums so received could he paid into a Municipal Suspense Account or dealt with in some such wa,y. At the 1 end of the month the net proceeds could be fonvard- ( ed to the National Council for the Reclamation of AVaste Material, Box 182, Wellington C.l, with a statement shoAving tile expenses, paid. If the paper forwarded from the local centre in cacli area includes paper sent 111 from nearby localities, for which the locality concerned expects to receiA*e the appropriate credit for its local patriotic fund, a record of such amount should be kept by the secretary of that local centre' and the National Council ad-< vised' of the amount involved for the preceding 12 months on Ist April in each year. Co-operating Boroughs are asked to fonvard in this connection to the National Council a statement slioaving as from Ist April, 1942: (a) Consignments already sent to Whakatane, (b) Consignments already sent to Auckland, if any, (c) Consignments already sent toWellington, if any, (d) Local sales: of newspapers, wrappings, etc. As from Ist August future returns could be sent monthly on a day of the month convenient to eo-operat-ing Boroughs.
