THOSE ..who scanned the advertisements in last Monday's already be conversant with the fact that there has been created yet another controlling: authority in our midst known as a 'Goods Transport Control Committee' with powers to dictate and enforce the carriage of goods along- prescribed and approved lines. The new movement is merely a further indication' of the growing supervision which has eaten steadily into our national fabric and forced us by virtue of our patriotism and conscientious war effort to relinquish our cherished independence phase by phase. The position however, is that before we can win through we must be prepared to put up with still more restrictions which will undoubtedly apply to all phases of life until civilians are under a regime of semi-military eon--1 trol.
Stray Cats "When you have cleaned up the stray dogs in town for goodness sake start on the stray catsi," said a visitor to the 'Beacon' office yesterday. He complained that the stray cat nuisance was a far greater curse than the dog question and should be taken firmly in hand.
Injury' at Football While playing a friendly game oi' football last Saturday Joe Gattsche, a well known young player, received a kicfk on the small of the hack which resulted in a painful injury to tlie kidneys. He was removed to the Whakatane Hospital where he is now reported to be making good progress.
