Flags to be Purchased The Whakatane Borough Council has decided' to purchase a further set of national flags. The countries to be included are South \Af rica > I n ~ dia, Free France, U.S.A., Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the Union Jack. t He Lost His Flag One of the local Home Guard signallers received a rude shock while on manoeuvres recently. Leaving his flag lying on. the ground, he was away for a short time and got back in time to sec a calf calmly chewing what then remained of it. % Nursing Division "At the fortnightly meeting of the S!t. John Nursing Division held in the Methodist-Hall on August 5, Mr S. Bishop of the Ambulance Brigade, demonstrated 'the St. Thomas Splint used in cases of leg injuries. Members also practised applying the splint. At the conclusion of the meeting a vote of thanks to Mr Bishop was carried by acclamation.
