Gene Autry, phenomenally popular singing star of the saddle, has something in the nature of a real li-fe role in his. first all-star, adventure musical romance, "Melody Ranch." In it Gene-portrays a Hollywood radio star Avho is featured in a western programme —all of which is reminiscent of his own position in real life as the star of the famous "Melody Ranch" radio programme. Gene goes soft in.Hollywood, and is unable to liokl his own against the villainous element of Torpedo—until he rides the range extensively to get back into condition again. On the other hand, in "real life," Gene is just as much a he-man as the roles'he. portrays on radio, and screen. He has an extensive workout programme which includes riding herd on the cattle of his own San Fernando valley ranch when he is not engaged before the cameras or the miscrophone. SCOTLAND YARD STORY Noel Madison in his first''British production, "The Man Who Made Diamonds'' is the kind of fast moving, unusual drama which cannot\._ fail to keep any audience gripping*, their seats with excitement.
