— -<9>NOW SPELLING , Tlic Manawatu jumper Chat, avinner of the Auckland Winter Steeples in Xune last, is now troubled with tenderness in the fore legs, and will not be raced, again this winter. the two cups Sinning Light, trained by Maurice McCarten, and who recently won two races, has now come into favour for the Caulheld and Melbourne Cups, in which he has been allotted 6.11 and 7.3 respectively. VOLIFOX AT ELLERSLIE A recent addition to N. Cunning- j ham's team at Ellerslie is Mr P. A. Swney's Volifox. The Foxbridgc— Volimond mare, winner of thfc Matamata Cup and other good races, soon comes to hand, and having been well wintered should be racing prominently in the earl}' spring. SHINING LIGHT FROM N.Z. It should be interesting to many Auckland Provincial sportsmen to learn that Shining Light, winner of two races lately over in Sydnej r , is Auckland bred. By Foxbridgc from Speedmint, he was sold by Mr A. Courtney at the National Sales in 1910 to J. T. Jamicson for 750 guineas.His. dam is bj r Catmint by Speedmint by Carbine, so once again the Musket blood comes into prominence . UNCHANGED The New Zealand Rules of Racing are to remain as at present for the duration of the war.
RECOMMISSIONED
A good handicap performer of last season, Sea Law, has again Joined the ranks of track workers under trainer Fred Smith at TakaninL He was not over-raced in the 1941-42 season, so is likely to be a real success in the months to come.
GOOD DERBY STAKES Sonic of the Australian racing clubs have hern considering the question of reducing prize, money for this season, and it was thought that the stakes for the principal events would surely be cut down. Sporting writers soon got to -work to show the inadvisability of such a step being taken, and an announcement was quickly made to the effect that the Australian Jockey dub Derby, to be run in November, would still he worth £.10011.
