BOY SCOUTS
TROOP'S ANNUAL MEETING PROSPECTS FOR NEW YEAR | The annual meeting of llio Whakatane Citizens Scout Committee took place in the Caledonian Hall last Monday evening when there was a good attendance of members of both Scout troops arid Cubs and their parents. Apologies for absence aa'ctc received from Mesdames Miller and Goodall and Mr McKenzie. In his annual report the chairman mentioned the progress which had been maintained under the' capable supervision of Scoutmaster G. V". Thomas. Classes for First AIM, Signalling and Map-making lutd been made possible through the interest of Messrs Drubc, Mulholland and Seebeclc respectively, and the committee was most grateful for their co-opcration. The; visits of Dominion Chief Scout Hector Christie and Dominion CommisaTfoner Cookscy also took place during the
year and had been warmly appreciated by the bov.s. Church parades had been inaugurated with great success and the Ministers of each denomination co-operating in this respect were to be commanded for their interest and help. The advent of the new Scottish troop had meant a ■definite Increase in the number of boys now interested in the code and he trusted that the relations between the two groups would always be the happiest. j Scoutmaster Thomas reported on the progress of both the Scouts and! .1 i the Cubs and paid special tributes to the lecturers Avho were training the boys In certain subjects. j The election of officers resulted: j Patron, Mr B. The financial position was set out by the secretary who stated that the funds were now in credit to the extent of £3. Mr C. F. Thomas spoke for the newly formed Scottish troop and trusted that scouting generally would show continued improvement in Whakatane. Special votes of thanks were accorded the Scoutmaster (Rev Thomas), Cub Mistress (Miss Blythe), the lecturers and the members of, the committee. The meeting; closed with a brfef period of silenec in tribute to exscouters who had made the supreme sacrifice overseas.
