MEAT BOARD'S YEAR
INCREASED ACTIVITIES The twentieth annual report of the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board, to be presented at the meeting next month, reviews in detail the arrangements made for the Government purchase of meat for the 1941-42 season, also sets out the complete range of f.o.b. prices of meat payable for the esasori. Killings of sheep, beef, pigs, with sundries in freight carcases for the period October 1 to May 30 were 11,222,991 carcases, compared with 11,383,998 carcases for last season. The season was favourable. The board stresses the need for producers doing everything in their power to maintain and even improve the quality of meat. It continues its grants to district fat lamb and chilled cattle competitions. Cool storage capacity, now amounts to 256,000 tons of meat at 2.53 cubic feet per freight carcass —excluding freezing chambers. The board has kept in close touch with developments in the manufacture of dehydrated meat.
The balance sheet shows accumulated funds of £54,525. Assets include £19,-1-1-1 in Government loans and- cash at bankers £1272. Payments during the year were £30.000 and interest on investments, amounted to £1169. Expenses of management totalled £9(57(>, of which £5523 was at head olfice in New Zealand and the balance at the London ofliee. Members'- honoraria and travelling expenses amounted to £4239. Excess income over expenditure is £9351.
